Border Collie-Aussie Mix Needs to Run Everyday

Our Border Collie-Aussie dog named Kash has cabin fever.

Kash is getting weird. As Border Collie/Aussie mix dogs go, they are high energy and need to burn that energy every day.

The snow is so frickin deep here in Michigan, (we live near Lake Michigan) that poor Kash can’t even burrow through the snow! It is 38″ (I measured) on our main trail around our property. Kash can only jump/hop through the snow, and I am way to out of shape to go any distance in the deep crap. (can you tell I’m sick of snow?)

When we do go out tromping through the snow, Kash does get worn out. Me, I am nearly dialing 911 by the time we get back.

Border Collie-Aussie dogs are very smart, energetic, and can be kid of neurotic when things get out of sync. At least that is what I have noticed with Kash. He can get grumpy when he doesn’t get to unload that energy buildup.

The other thing I have noticed is that he gets cold quicker than some of the other dogs I have had. They have thick, very fine hair, but thin skin. In his defense, I should say it has been unusually cold, sometimes well below zero!

We do play with toys a lot in the house. One of his favorite toys is a stuffed beaver. That was the first toy my mother-in-law gave him. He took it from her hand and immediately started humping it! He was only 12 weeks old! We still play with it daily.

Well, it’s back out to finish shoveling. We were blessed with another 8 inches of fine snow today. They said maybe 3 inches, ha! I have been shoveling for an hour and still have another 20 minutes of shoveling to go.

Next time we post, it will be thawing. It is supposed to get above freezing for the first time since December 3, 2013, in a couple days. I need to get the snow off the barn and garage roofs before they collapse.

Until then, pet your dog nicely.
