Border Collie-Aussie Dog Gets Poison Ivy

Do Border Collie-Aussie mix dogs get poison ivy?

Kash, our Border Collie-Aussie has what we believe is poison ivy. He runs through it all the time, and we (my wife and I) usually have it off and on all summer long from the poison ivy oils on Kash’s fur.

Kash plays with his weasel.

He is constantly licking and biting all four of his feet. Could it be an allergy of some kind or poison ivy in between his toes? This is driving us crazy and probably himself as well. Not only the licking and biting, but it causes an odor from his feet. We used to think it was the smell of speed (because he is so fast) but not it just smells like dirty dog.

Any help on this from you readers? Thanks for your suggestions. (comments)

Kash always the curious one.

Kash is always “up in our business” all the time. He always is checking out what you are doing, what is in your hands, and listening to the words we use. He keys in on the words chipmunk, squirrel, rabbit, frogs, who’s here, play, snack, nap, and the big one, Shelly. He adores Shelly.

He truly does listen to figure out what you are saying and learns really quick when we intentionally teach him something. The other day, Shelly taught him the command “excuse me”, meaning he needs to move when it is spoken. He learned it in a matter of minutes. Now all we say is “excuse me” and he jumps up and moves to another spot. It is so much better now than what was previously said. That’s what we learned from our dog training course we invested in early on.

We have still been feeding him the same dog food, Blue Buffalo, and he likes it. He is 64 pounds the last time we weighed him and the vet said that is ideal for his size.

We also make homemade dog food from the recipe book we bought online. It is chocked full of useful recipes that a dog owner can use. Highly recommended.

I don’t know if any of you have a problem with your dog chewing dog toys to pieces, but this is one that Kash has not chewed apart yet, a Kong Wubba, and he has had it for quite a while.

Shelly bought Kash a pillow the other day, asking me if I thought he would like it, I shook my head yes, ‘wink, wink”. He loved it alright. He had the stuffing torn out of it in less than five minutes and was throwing the pillow carcass around the stuffing strewn living room!

Kash thinks it is his duty to rip the stuffing out of any stuffed animal toy, so we have to choose carefully what we give him to play with. Anything that Kong dog toys makes is usually pretty sturdy and holds up well to an aggressive chewer.

Well that’s it for now, over and out.
