Kash, Our Crazy Cool Dog Goes On Vacation in Michigan

Kash, Our Border Collie Mix Dog On the Beach

We took our Border Collie/Australian Shepherd dog on a mini weekend vacation to view the colorful autumn leaves between our house and the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan.

We stayed in a disgustingly dirty cabin the first night. We made reservations online, the pics looked good (of the outside) and the price was right. Plus they accepted dogs without charge. That was the best thing I could say about this place.

Kash was even nervous staying in this place. Shelly slept in her clothes, coat, shoes and stocking hat the whole night. We left at the crack of dawn, cancelling our second night.

We took off early, seeing lots of deer along the way. We made it to M-22 Hwy and headed north. This is an awesome road to travel with a lot of interesting things to see and towns to pass through. We kept seeing M-22 stickers on all kinds of vehicles, so we are not the only ones fond of this road.

We also were sourcing antiques and collectibles for my antique store at Sweet Pickins Antique Mall, between South Haven and Bangor, on M-43 Hwy. Stopping at yard sales and estate sales is so much fun for me, and even Shelly bought a few items. The coolest one was a barn sale open at 6 A.M. in the morning!

We met a lady in a park we stopped at that also had a Border Collie-Aussie mix dog. It was a different color but had the same look in the face. Kash looks more Aussie than Border Collie, but this lady’s dog looked more Border Collie than Aussie.

Autumn leaves in Michigan

The color of the trees was better in some areas than others. On our way up, heading north, the color was just starting. We went over the Mackinac Bridge and drove around for an hour, bought some smoked fish, walked the dog on a beach, and headed back south. The color increased dramatically on the way back.

Our dog, traveled so well, he understandably would like to run around more than ride in the van, but he does well. I think it all has to do with how we trained him. We used a program we bought online called Secrets to Dog Training. This has been an invaluable source of information, especially with this type of breed of dog. Highly recommended!

I’ll post more on this vacation and Kash, our traveling Border Collie-Aussie mix dog a little bit later.
