Kash, our Border Collie-Aussie mix dog has seen his master suffer another debilitating injury that prevents him from playing like he’s used to.
Here we go again. Last week I was lifting a 300 pound eliptical machine and ruptured my biceps tendon at the elbow. Clean off the bone!
Did it on Monday evening, had 2 hour surgery on Friday re-attaching the tendon to the bone. It will be 5 months before I can lift any weight. Unfortunately it is my right hand, my dominate hand.
So with my arm in a cast/brace and wrapped like a mummy, I cannot play rough with Kash like he is used to. Shelly has a hard time playing as rough as we do, so she usually gets hurt or mad when he gets frustrated and chomps her!
The poor Kashman, he has seen me break my foot last February, have it in a brace/boot for 10 weeks (no hiking), then I ruptured my quadriceps tendon above the knee, had it in a brace, straight out, for 14 weeks, (no hiking) and now this latest injury. He sure hasn’t had a fair shake in the exercise/hiking department from me.
Hopefully, we can get back to our dog training course because Kash sure seems to be in a quick learning phase. It is like he understands us when we talk and issue commands far better than he did earlier in life. I am glad we started the first day we brought him home, but right now he is in the right frame of mind to grasp our oral commands.
I am also working on eye signals with him. He is doing quite well and it amazes me how quickly he understands my expressions/eye signals and what action to take upon recognizing my signals. I use eye signals to get Kash to attack (playfully) Shelly. It makes her so mad that he does this, and won’t do it for her.
We have been sourcing new durable toys for Kash lately. I am thinking that if I can find a line of toys he likes and can’t destroy (he is a powerful chewer) I may start an online dog toy store. I am going to a wholesale show in a few weeks and will see what I can find. Until then I shop at Amazon.com.

Well that’s all for now. I am going back to icing my arm and reading up on healthy dog food recipes. Speaking of healthy dog food recipes, I am almost finished with my ebook that will contain some great recipes for homemade healthy dog snacks. So be on the lookout for it as I will offer it to my readers for review first before I price it to sell.
Hug your dog,
Thomas & Kash
